Everyone was fooled by Pompeys transfer market antics. Everyone is now saying, with hindsight, that they thought they were acting dodgey but at the time it was reported in all the media that they had been selling players for multi millions covering their spending sprees but in reality these players were sold for a fraction of the reported figures over a 4 or 5 year period.

It would be akin to us being told that we sold Arfield for £2.5m, then seeing none of that money spent on players during the transfer window and finding out much later that he was actually sold for £400k.

In any case, their fans have been dumped on. They are genuine die hards. A football club of some sorts will survive down there. I doubt Portsmouth as we know them will make it. Id be surprised if they can get through the summer months to be honest but the fans will create something to follow.

Noticed yesterday that HMRC are unhappy about portsmouth going into voluntary administration as that puts them down the creditors list.Football debts would be paid first, HMRC might be lucky to get a fraction of the 11 million they are owned, so they have been summoned back to court.
With such a determined effort being made by the taxman to get his money, the writing is well and truly on the wall for pompey, just wish they had done the same with motherwell...

That's the job cuts started.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8560834.stm

I was amazed at this.

Quote:
Before the job cuts the club had a staff of 166 full-time employees, and 154 part-time.

Portsmouth, Chester, Cardiff, Southend all in the administration courts.
Other teams wound up and in the news.

Rangers & Celtic in debt.
Man U and Real owe a billion quid between them.

Who's next, and how close to home will it be?

I don't say this lightly, but I really hope one of the worlds footballing super powers get into serious trouble and a few others from the top leagues. It could just be the catalyst needed to sort the game out and to address a lot of the issues from ticket prices to players wages to even sorting out league structures and youth development.

I hope the guy who is trying to take over Rangers, either doesn't, or fecks them over good and proper. Couldn't give a flying feck who wins the title, and if it means Celtic winning the league year after year, then so be it. Hopefully Rangers would have to stick with Scottish youngsters which could then act as a catalyst for the other teams in the SPL to do the same. The amount of money wasted on journeymen pros earning 2K+ every week and producing hee haw entertainment has to stop.

Getting to the FA cup final really is a massive achievment for a club who's just been relegated. If they won the cup it'd be amazing

50-50 chance now.

Reading the bbc page Kiddy linked to, no wonder they are in such a mess.
Someone at the club actually agreed these contracts

Quote:
If Pompey do make the final, they may have to do without several of their players, who will be making their final appearances for the club in the semi-final because of expensive trigger clauses in their contracts.

Administrator Andrew Andronikou has revealed that "five or six players" would be eligible for bullet payments if they played another game.

These could be cash payments of up to £100,000 or the guarantee of a contract renewal for next season.

"These bullet payments mean that they can play in the semi-final, but not play another game after it, unless they waiver those payments," said Andronikou.

"That would be tragic for the player if the team is in the FA Cup final, but it will be the players', or their agents', decisions. They are going to have to forfeit those contractual obligations or they cannot play again.

"As the club is in administration and as the administrator, I am not in a position to allow these payments or indeed to allow the players to automatically renew their contracts for next season."
