GRETNA 0 - 4 FALKIRK

Falkirk kick off season 2007/2008 with a comfortable victory over SPL newcomers Gretna.

Despite a bright start in which Darren Barr did well to head clear a cross by Yantomo Falkirk took the lead in the 14th minute thanks to new signing Micheal Higdon. Scobbie raced down the left side and sent in a fantastic cross which Higdon directed the ball past the Gretna keeper. Gretna tried to equalise with a free kick but Scobbie did well to send a powerful header out of the Falkirk penalty box.

Ten minutes later Falkirk doubled their advantage after Steven Thomson cracked a fantastic cross which left the keeper stranded and allowed Higdon again to nod in the rebound for his and Falkirk's second.

Gretna could have equalised through McMenamin (remember him!) but he allowed the ball to trickle out of play after catching Scobbie out on the left. Falkirk finished the stronger side though Moutinho blasted over after being put through by Thomson.

HT: Gretna 0 - 2 Falkirk

The introduction of Kenny Deuchar saw Gretna miss two chances down to some fantastic saves by new boy Tim Krul, we can't help thinking this lad will save us a few points this season.

In the 66th minute Falkirk delivered the killer blow with probably the best goal of the four. Latapy sent Pedro free on the right side and he drew the keeper to send a beautiful curling shot into the top right hand corner of the net. The impressive away support showed their appreciation by singing Moutinho's name at the tops of their voices.

Russell Latapy missed placed a pass straight to Colin McMenamin but he failed to capitalise on the little magicians mistake. In the 74th minute Latapy more than made up for his error after sending a powerful drive into the bottom of the net after being set up by the impressive Moutinho and Afrield. New signing Roman Wallner made his debut and was immediately involved in a tussle with Gretna's Craig Barr. However the big Austrian did well to set up Craig Arfield who's shot went narrowly over the bar.

A fantastic start to the season for Falkirk. Top of the league and having a laugh!
